When the Barclays golf tournament comes back to New Jersey in August, Gianna Rojas will be there supporting the March of Dimes.
Rojas also plays golf, and there is one thing that sets her apart from other golfers. Rojas was born with only one hand.
Rojas has been involved with the March of Dimes, an organization that helps fund research to prevent problems at birth, since she was a child. She became interested in golf when she met her husband.
It is through a friend of her husband that enabled her to volunteer at the Barclays to help raise money.
"My husband and his friend are members [at the Newton Country Club]," she says. "One of his friends mentioned that he was the chairperson for the March of Dimes."
Rojas herself is the community director of the organization in Hudson County. While she is volunteering at the Barclays, she hopes to raise $5,000 for the cause by participating in an online voting competition.
She posted videos of her unique one-handed golf swing on YouTube in an attempt to generate some buzz for her cause.
"My attempt at this is to have everything go viral," she says referring to both her swing and her support of the March of Dimes.
Anyone who wishes to vote for Rojas can do so at the tournament website
