Some General Motors dealerships across New Jersey were mum Friday about their fate as the company handed out pink slips to 1,100 shops.
The company told the dealerships that their franchise agreements won't be renewed. Dealers were informed either by telephone or FedEx letters that they will be closed.
GM spokeswoman Susan Garontakos said the company will not make public a list of dealers to be cut, leaving the decision to release information to individual business owners. General Motors has said it is looking to close 2,600 dealerships by the end of 2010.
On Thursday, Chrysler announced it would be closing 789 of its dealerships across country.
