The New York Giants are responding to a class action lawsuit filed by former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores.
Flores filed a suit against the NFL and its 32 franchises citing racial discrimination in their hiring processes.
Among developments that drove Flores to file the lawsuit was a string of text messages with Patriots coach Bill Belichick three days before his scheduled Giants interview, leading Flores to believe Brian Daboll already had been chosen as their new coach.
The Giants called Flores’s allegations “disturbing and simply false.”
“After we interviewed six exceptional and diverse candidates, the decision on who we would hire as head coach was made on the evening of Jan. 28, one day after Mr. Flores spent an entire day in our offices going through his second interview for the position, meeting with ownership and other staff members, and receiving a tour of our facility,” the organization said in a statement.
The team says that Daboll was hired at the end of an open and thorough interview process.
