It's going to cost more to drive in New Jersey this year.

The state's gas tax is now up by over 4 cents a gallon as of the new year, bringing the total near 50 cents a gallon.

Drivers in New Jersey are paying some of the highest rates in the country.

Tolls on the Turnpike and Parkway are also up by 3%, marking the fifth consecutive increase. Starting Sunday, Port Authority tolls rise about 3% plus another 25 cents.

That means crossing the George Washington Bridge, Lincoln Tunnel or Holland Tunnel with E-ZPass now costs over 70 cents more.
