Former President Baraka Obama and current President Donald Trump have tied for the title of “Most Admired Man” of 2019, according to a recent Gallup Poll.
It is the 12th time Obama has been named “most admired” and the first time for Trump.
Gallup has been asking Americans to name the man or woman that they admired the most since 1948.
Gallup says that this year’s results were sharply divided along party lines, with 41% of Democrats naming Obama and 45% of Republicans choosing Trump. Independents’ choices were divided about equally between Obama and Trump, according to Gallup.
Trump has become more popular now than he has been in the past two years, with a 45% job approval rating.
Michele Obama was named the “Most Admired Woman” for the second year in a row. First Lady Melania Trump came in second.
The polling agency asks the question in an open-ended fashion. Eleven percent of American’s named a friend or relative as the man that they admired the most. Sixteen percent of Americans named a female relative or friend that they admired the most.
More information about the poll can be found on Gallup’s website.
