A funeral service was held Monday for a 60-year-old Paterson man hit and killed by an SUV on Friday.
Relatives of Cengiz Kurt say he was waiting for a bus at Main Street and Madison on Friday morning when a Jeep Cherokee struck and killed him.
Surveillance video posted on social media shows Kurt holding a cane while waiting for the bus in front of a gas station, wearing a blue jacket and blue hood.
The video shows him turn to look behind him and then it shows him trying to get out of the way of an oncoming Jeep. The SUV then jumped the curb and slammed into him.
Pieces of that car are still in the gas station lot on Monday, along with candles placed to honor the loss of life.
The driver of the Jeep Cherokee at the center of this crash also collided with a steel city garbage can, which flew into the air and hit and injured a gas station attendant. News 12 is still waiting to hear about how badly that man was hurt.
The Passaic County prosecutor has not released the name of the driver. News 12 is waiting to see if that person will face criminal charges.
