A rally this afternoon outside the Ocean County Courthouse in Toms River is in honor of a beloved pet.
Supporters want justice for Ruby, a French bulldog shot and killed while being watched by a relative.
The rally is aimed at keeping pressure on Jeffrey Lentz, who is accused of shooting Ruby in Berkeley Township. Lentz is the stepfather of the dog's owner, Nicole Ingraffia.
Ingraffia says she left Ruby with her mother and Lentz in October while attending a wedding. She says she was told Ruby died in an attack by another animal.
After retrieving Ruby's remains, Ingraffia took her dog to a veterinarian who performed an X-ray showing Ruby had been shot in the face.
Berkeley Township Police said Lentz would be charged with animal cruelty and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Ingraffia says she wants accountability and jail time for Lentz. She says Ruby's life mattered and that she has never been given answers.
