The sounds of Asbury Park, known as the city where music lives, will be free for audiences to enjoy on Mondays for the rest of the summer.
“Music Mondays,” an outdoor concert series in Springwood Park, will begin June 27. It features a diverse lineup of musical acts mostly from the Asbury Park area.
"We bring a very, very funky, soulful sound. It's constantly moving. But at the same time, it's touching your soul," says Alexander Simone of Whodat? Live Crew.
Simone's group will perform on July 4.
The concerts are put on by the Asbury Park Music Foundation. Its mission is to provide music education and instruments to local students and also to bring the community together through music.
"Everyone needs it now - musicians need it, the technical people need it, the community needs it. Everybody needs to get out and benefit from music," says Eileen Chapman of the foundation. She is also an Asbury Park council member.
Simone, who is the son of singer and actress Lisa Simone and grandson of music icon Nina Simone, is releasing a new single on Friday, "Man Down,” on streaming platforms.
