Two former Penn State students have pleaded guilty to criminal charges related to the death of a Hunterdon County native.
Brendan Young and Daniel Casey each pleaded guilty to 14 counts of hazing and a single count of reckless endangerment in the death of Timothy Piazza in 2017.
Piazza died after drinking large amounts of alcohol and falling down a flight of stairs while pledging the Beta Thea Pi fraternity.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry says that Young and Casey were facilitating the pledging process when Piazza died.
Piazza’s death brought the subject of fraternity hazing into the limelight. His family helped Pennsylvania bring about legislation to make hazing a “felony-graded offense when serious injury or death results.”
Young and Casey will be sentenced on Oct. 1
