A former Hillside police officer faces up to 20 years in prison after a crash in Tinton Falls that killed a married couple from Maryland.

John McClave, 38, has been convicted of vehicular homicide, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said.

Officials say McClave was on his way to work when the crash happened in October 2021 on Asbury Avenue, just off the Garden State Parkway. They say he was driving under the influence at the time.

His pickup truck went off the highway and hit a car, killing the husband and wife inside, according to prosecutors.

McClave is scheduled to be sentenced in May.
