The New Jersey Devils are mourning their onetime general manager Ray Shero, who died on Tuesday.
Shero was the team’s GM from 2015 until 2020.
“Ray was a highly-respected executive, enthusiastic mentor, and most importantly, tremendous friend to many during his time in New Jersey,” Tom Fitzgerald, the Devils’ current president and general manager, wrote in a statement.
It wasn’t clear how Shero died. He was 62 years old.
Shero was the son of Hall of Fame coach Fred Shero. He worked in the NHL since the mid-90s with Ottawa, Pittsburgh, New Jersey and Minnesota. He was the GM of the Penguins when they won the Stanley Cup in 2009.
