Heavy rain and thunderstorms quickly swept through New Jersey Thursday morning and caused flooding issues in parts of the state.
News 12’s Tony Caputo visited the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township where a car was trapped in floodwater on Leesville Avenue.
The driver of the vehicle apparently tried to drive through the floodwater, but then was bombarded by a rain-induced waterfall, according to Avenel Fire Chief Frank Strain. No one was injured.
“The water was coming over the train track bridge like a waterfall and we’ve never seen it do that before during a rainstorm. That was our first time experiencing that,” Strain said.
Strain says the train tracks were inspected. He believes it was simply a matter of too much rain in a short time.
