Heavy downpours led to flooding in Hackensack Thursday night, which left some drivers stranded.
Essex Street near South Newman Street was completely flooded.
Some drivers crossed into flooded streets, while others decided to park and waited until the water receded.
Hackensack Fire Department Captain Justin Derevyanik urged drivers not to drive around barricaded areas that have closed roads. He said the best advice is "turn around, don't drown."
The fire department said they performed at least 30 rescues, if not more.
The fire department added that the drainage systems were working, but it took time for the water to recede.
