Residents at 654 Kingsborough 6th Walk have been complaining for more than two years about a leak in their basement.

“Not only does it smell, we have rodents running through the building, gnats all types of bugs and it’s becoming a real problem now and NYCHA refuses to do something about it," said resident Cynthia Bedford.

The garbage compactor room is located in the flooded basement, causing garbage to be backed up.

“The incinerators are locked it’s full of garbage and the compactor room is full of water," said Bedford.

Bedford, a longtime resident tells News 12 the leak was discovered a couple of years ago and since then management has only put Band-Aids on the problem.“

They came two years ago they tried to fix it, they came back in October they tried to fix it. I then told them again that the water is back and the flood is back.

”Relief could be headed residents' way. After News 12 interviewed resident's workers with Watson's Plumbing and Heating showed up to the scene with a sewage truck to begin repair work. News 12 reached out to NYCHA for an interview and it responded with the following statement:

"NYCHA staff have been clearing the clogged chute at this building and identified a stoppage requiring vendor assistance. The vendor will be on site to clear the chute and make neccessary repairs. 654 Kingsborough 6th Walk is regularly treated by exterminators, but residents in need of assistance with pests are encouraged to call the Customer Contact Center at 718-707-7771 or submit work tickets through the MyNYCHA application."
