A man from Flemington was found guilty of murdering a 50-year-old man while helping him move, according to prosecutors.
The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office says Samuel Coggins, 31, was identified by a 911 caller for assaulting Augustine Garcia, of Manville, back in July 2022.
An investigation revealed Coggins was at a house on North Avenue to assist Garcia and an unnamed resident with moving, prosecutors say. Subsequently, Coggins assaulted Garcia while outside in the driveway, causing injuries that ultimately led to his death. Prosecutors say Garcia suffered from a severe head injury. He later died at a hospital.
Coggins will be sentenced on Nov. 13. He faces life in prison without parole, with the possibility of an additional term of imprisonment between 15 and 30 years.
