A firetruck collided with a Hudson-Bergen Light Rail train shortly after 7 p.m., according to officials.
The crash happened at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Sixth Street in Jersey City as firefighters were on their way to a call.
Authorities say the firetruck tried to go through the intersection when a train was coming at about 5 mph. They say the train was pushed about eight feet, and the firetruck ended up against a wall after being pushed about 30 feet.
Five people were injured. One of the five was seriously injured, but the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
Service has been suspended in both directions between Martin Boulevard and Newport while crews work to remove the firetruck and get the train back on the track.
