Fire spurs evacuation of hundreds of students at New Jersey school
A fire at a school in East Rutherford has spurred the safe evacuation of all students and staff.
The fire at the Alfred S. Faust Intermediate School was reported around 10:15 a.m.
According to officials, more than 450 students were evacuated from the smoky school and taken to nearby Becton Regional High School.
Officials say smoke was reportedly coming from a vent in a third-floor boys bathroom and a faculty bathroom.
They believe the fire started in a heating unit on the roof.
The students will not be returning today.
No word if school will be reopened tomorrow.
AP wire services helped contribute to this report.
