A high-rise apartment building in Paterson was evacuated Friday morning due to a trash fire.
Tenants of the Riverview Towers apartments on Presidential Boulevard say that they were able to see intense flames and smoke pouring out of the chimney that is connected to the garbage collection area in one of the four buildings that make up the complex.
"Everybody started evacuating," says Maria Parra, who was one of the first people to call 911. "I actually started screaming 'There's a fire, a fire. Get out of the building.'"
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control within an hour. None of the apartment units were damaged.
There were no reports of any injuries.
