As winter approaches and the temperature turns colder, fire departments across New Jersey will be called out to make ice-water rescues.

Seven departments headed to Budd Lake, the largest natural body of water in the state, to practice their skills today before they're called into action to save a life.

"During the height of the winter season, when [Budd Lake] freezes, there could be on a Saturday or Sunday... 50, 60, 70 people out here. Ice fishing is a big thing on this lake," says Budd Lake Fire Department Assistant Chief Kevin Maloney.

Officials say that if people who go on or near frozen bodies of water, they should have a throw bag with rope and that if you see someone fall through, do not try and pull them out and instead call 911.
