Firefighters conducting inspections at the Paterson Public Safety Complex last week discovered the building?s fire alarm system was broken. In lieu of shutting the building down, firefighters have been stationed on each of the complex?s four floors. Fire department officials said the complex was kept open since it houses the police department?s communication network. Paterson City Councilman William McCoy called for the inspections after all of Paterson?s 52 schools were shut down for similar violations in late August. ?I don't think it was anything new that the building was not up to code,? said McCoy. Fire officials say inspectors worked throughout the weekend to bring the complex up to code. They expect the work to be finished by Tuesday.
