An Edison woman is fighting for her life after she was injured in a hit-and-run crash, and her family is now seeking answers.
The family says that the 87-year-old was struck by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon near Park Avenue and Nevsky Street in Edison while going to meet her daughter.
“We think she felt pretty good. It was a nice morning, so she decided to go down the path and decided to meet her halfway,” says Josh Palestine. “That when my sister-in-law found her with two other people looking over her.
The driver did not stay at the scene. But two good Samaritans stopped to help the elderly woman.
“A couple was actually there. A white man and an Indian lady were helping my mom at the time,” says son Steven Kwan. “My sister, at the time, was so concerned, so she just picked up my mom and brought her home and took her to the emergency room. She never got a chance to get the name of the couple.”
The woman suffered broken ribs, a broken shoulder and a collapsed lung. She is breathing through a ventilator.
The family says that they hope a witness comes forward or that the driver turns themselves in.
“I find it hard to believe that someone would just hit someone and move on,” Steven Kwan says. “I personally would never do that under any kind of circumstances.”
Police say that since no witnesses have come forward they do not have a description of the driver or the vehicle.
