Officials in Jersey City are trying to figure out how a steaming block of metal went crashing through the roof of a furniture warehouse Wednesday morning.
Police say it?s lucky no one at the Al Smith Office Furniture Warehouse was hurt when the 8-pound steel block fell to the ground around 9 a.m. Owner Al Smith says he was about 10 feet away from where it fell and that he heard what sounded like an explosion when it came through the roof.
According to officials, the piece of metal was so hot that workers couldn?t even touch it until it cooled off about 30 minutes after it fell. No one knows where it came from or what the object is, but the Federal Aviation Administration has confirmed it is not from an aircraft.
Officials from other agencies are examining it to determine where the block came from.
