Fair Lawn police warn of uptick in phone scams

Police say to contact the customer service number on your phone bill if you are called by a scammer.

Phone scammers are coming up with new tactics, according to Fair Lawn police.

They say scammers are calling their victims under fake names such as “Verizon” and “PSE&G” on caller ID and requesting money through Venmo or Zelle.

Police are warning that major companies will never request payment of one of those apps.
