The war with Iran is impacting gas prices across New Jersey.

The price of regular gasoline is jumping to $3.59 at select gas stations, while others along highly traveled roads such as Route 9, Route 1 and the Garden State Parkway were hovering right around $3.39.

The price for diesel, which will have an impact on trucking, is just below $5 per gallon.

The higher prices are changing habits and forcing some drivers to spend less.

“When prices go this high, I have to think about where I have to go ahead of time - places like work take the priority," said Keymaan Coleman, of Rahway.

“I’m paying attention because the prices are high and the cost is too much right now," said Devon Brooks, who drives about 78 miles per day.

Iran provides 20% of the world’s oil supply. As more refineries and storage sites are targeted by the United States and Israel, countries around the world that depend on Iran for oil are now searching elsewhere.

Ships with Iranian oil aren’t leaving ports, as shown by the lack of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, Iran's government is targeting oil sites in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. This has caused greater demand, which means higher gas prices.
