A quiet residential street turned into the scene of a frightening attempted car theft. The incident was caught on surveillance video.

The video shows the moment the situation escalated, when the owner of a gray SUV runs toward his vehicle, trying to stop someone from stealing it. That’s when another man, dressed in a hoodie, steps out of a nearby car and pulls a gun on him.

The owner immediately puts his hands up and backs away as the car alarm blares.

But the confrontation was the result of a calculated sequence of events that unfolded just minutes earlier.

Surveillance video shows a man in a brown hoodie arriving in a car, getting out, and smashing the window of the parked SUV before fleeing the scene.

Moments later, a white car is seen circling the block multiple times before making a U-turn and parking directly in front of the same SUV. The man in the brown hoodie then gets out again, this time climbing through the broken window in an apparent attempt to steal the vehicle.

As the suspect is inside the SUV, the owner rushes toward him, triggering the armed confrontation.

Both suspects are then seen driving away from the scene in the white car.

The car's owners tell News 12 that they did file a police report. They're asking anyone with information to come forward so they can piece together why their car was targeted.
