Police: Man faces charges following 6-hour armed standoff with police in Evesham
A man is facing charges following an hourslong armed standoff in the Marlton section of Evesham Township.
Evesham police say officers were called to a home on Brookfield Avenue just before 2:30 a.m. Monday for an argument. They say a person inside the home was armed with a gun.
Officials say that when officers arrived at the home, 56-year-old John Fox began shooting inside and outside of the home. The officers did not fire back.
Police say that Fox then barricaded himself in the home. A shelter-in-place was put into effect for neighbors as a precaution as officials surrounded the home.
Evesham police say that Fox surrendered after six hours and was taken into custody. The shelter-in-place order was then lifted.
Officials say they found several firearms inside of the home. Fox was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, aggravated assault and criminal mischief.
No one was hurt during the incident, but police say that some of the homes were struck by bullets.
Any homeowner who discovers their home was struck is urged to contact Evesham police at 856-983-1116.
