A woman was hospitalized with burns Monday morning following a fire in Elizabeth.

The fire happened around 9 a.m. along Third Avenue. Officials say the fire started in an apartment on the first floor.

"One occupant inside the apartment was transported to Saint Barnabas because she has smoke inhalation and burns to her feet and hands,” said Elizabeth Fire Department Deputy Chief Jorge Chavez.

Firefighters say at least two people were displaced.

Two businesses in the same building did not suffer any damage and will likely reopen by the end of day.
