Tenafly resident Edan Alexander made his first public comments since being released from Hamas captivity.

"After I was taken, I fought every day to survive in captivity in the tunnels, in the darkness," he said. " I was held for 584 days, but tonight, I am standing here free."

Speaking at the Friends of the IDF New York Gala, he thanked President Donald Trump for securing his release. He also thanked his family for not giving up on him. He told those attending the gala that he will put on the IDF uniform again.

Edan Alexander returned home to Tenafly back in June. Nearly two years since the terror attack on Oct. 7, 48 hostages remain in captivity. Of those, only 20 are believed to be alive.
