Hamas released the now-21-year-old to the Red Cross on May 12, and he was quickly returned to his family.

Alexander is an Israeli American soldier who was kidnapped from his base during the Oct. 7 attack. Hamas released Alexander as a goodwill gesture toward the Trump administration.

Fifty-three hostages remain under Hamas’s control.
