One person has been sent to the hospital after driving into the Passaic River in Garfield.
Garfield police say that just after 3:30 pm. Tuesday a man accidently drove his SUV off an embankment near 99 River Drive and flipped the vehicle over and into the river below.
Rescue crews were immediately called and worked to get the man out. He was brought to a local hospital to be treated for injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening.
The Garfield hazmat team was on the scene to determine if any fluids leaked into the river. Several EMS workers were checked for hypothermia since the water in the river was so cold.
