As crews work to repair a water main break in Edison Township Thursday evening, the impact on local businesses is massive.
It was a Boxing Day nightmare for restaurants and entertainment centers at the Edison Towne Square. Hastily printed and handwritten signs were taped to the front doors to let customers know the businesses were closed.
“Businesses and residents along Route 1, Woodbridge Avenue, Route 27 are all impacted. Our crews are working pretty hard, very hard at first to try and isolate the break itself and then begin the repairs,” said Edison Mayor Sam Joshi.
Management tells News 12 that reservations at both Top Golf and Supercharged Entertainment centers had to be postponed because there was no water. Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, Tommy’s Tavern and Tap House, Sam’s Club, LA Fitness and Tio all were closed into the afternoon.
“The businesses that are impacted - everything from small commercial stores to larger commercial industries,” said Joshi.
Tommy’s Tavern was open for takeout orders only and hoped to start allowing customers later that evening, while other restaurants like Tio remained in a wait-and-see holding pattern.
Customers still planning on visiting one of the affected areas are advised to call ahead first.
A boil water advisory is in effect for the 20,000 customers impacted by the water main break.
