A main roadway in Bergen County was forced to close after Wednesday night’s storm toppled utility poles.
Broad Avenue is a major roadway in Leonia. It has been closed for hours after strong winds took down a tree and seven utility poles. The incident left two blocks of the roadway closed and caused power outages in the area. The local middle school and several businesses were closed on Thursday as a result.
“A number of businesses had to be closed today. Some of the medical offices, we worked with them so they could stay open…so it did cause a little bit of an issue today,” says Detective Erik Goodell.
Crews from both PSE&G and Verizon are working on restoring service to those affected. The goal for service restoration is by Friday.
Once PSE&G clears live wires from the scene, the Leonia Department of Public Works can clear trees and branches.
