The NYPD is increasing security along the route of Sunday’s Dominican Day Parade in Manhattan, where more than 400,000 people are expected to attend.

The stepped‑up response comes two weeks after officers made 16-gun arrests following the Dominican Day Parade in the Bronx, including the arrest of a teenager found carrying a loaded assault rifle.

Police officials say the violence has prompted a more aggressive safety plan for this weekend’s celebration.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the department will deploy additional units along Sixth Avenue from West 38th Street to West 55th Street. She said specialized teams focused on guns and gangs will be positioned near the end of the parade to prevent incidents as crowds disperse.

“We will have enhanced deployments of our teams that deal with guns and gangs particularly as the parade concludes,” Tisch said.

The department says its goal is to ensure the 44th annual parade remains a day of culture and community and not chaos.

The parade steps off at 11 a.m. Sunday from West 38th Street and ends at West 55th Street.
