Dispute over declined card ends with two nail salon employees slashed in Crown Heights

A dispute over a declined payment card ended with two nail salon employees slashed Wednesday night in Crown Heights, according to police and police sources.

Police say the violence happened just before 8:40 p.m. at Sunny Nail & Salon, located at 758A Nostrand Ave.

According to police, a 50-year-old employee suffered a slash wound to her shoulder. A 53-year-old employee suffered slash wounds to her face, arm and chest. Both women were taken to Kings County Hospital, where police say they are expected to recover.

When News 12 arrived Thursday morning, blood could still be seen on the sidewalk outside the salon.

Police sources told News 12 the confrontation began after a customer's payment card was declined. The dispute then turned violent, police sources said.

Authorities have not said what type of weapon was used.

Police arrested 23-year-old Laila Melendez, of Manhattan, in connection with the incident.

Melendez is charged with three counts of assault and four counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
