The question of ?who is wearing what?? at many Elizabeth schools is a phrase for the history books.
Parents and students at George Washington Elementary spent Tuesday picking up their new school uniforms. For the first time at the school, all students will wear uniforms provided by the school district. Many students and parents say the uniforms will make students more comfortable around each other because everyone will be dressed the same.
This is the second year of a five-year phase-in for school uniforms in the district. Currently, students in 15 schools wear uniforms. In three years, all 31 schools in the district will have them.
The district provides the first uniform kit for each student. However, if the uniforms need to be replaced, parents must purchase the new ones. District officials say they will spend approximately $4 million covering the cost of the uniforms during the first five years.
