A Denville man accused of stockpiling explosives in a makeshift home laboratory is facing multiple federal charges.

Joseph Rizos was arrested in June following an investigation alleging he ran a “destructive device manufacturing operation” from 2025 to 2026.

A search of his home uncovered a massive trove of explosives, bomb-making materials, along with firearms and ammunition.

Investigators said the 109 individual explosives they found were “capable of massive destruction.” The discovery prompted nearby homes to be evacuated.

The New Jersey District Attorney’s Office announced the charges against Rizos on Friday. They include unlawful receipt of explosive materials, unlawful storage of explosive material and unlawful possession of plastic explosives without a detection agent.
