The primary race for the special House Democratic seat in the 11th District is still too close to call. This is the seat left vacant after Mikie Sherrill became governor.

Eleven Democratic candidates were on the ballot – with candidates Analilia Mejia and former Rep. Tom Malinowski in the lead. The winner will take on Republican Randolph Mayor Joe Hathaway, who was unopposed in the primary.

"I do think that we have emerged victorious and but i want to first make sure that every voter’s voice is heard,” Mejia said during a news conference in Montclair Friday morning.

Malinowski responded to Mejia’s comments in a statement.

"Every vote deserves to be counted, and we look forward to a complete and accurate tally that reflects the full voice of NJ-11 voters,” he wrote.

The last official tally had Mejia leading by less than 1% of the votes. With some ballots postmarked on Election Day, some may arrive as late as next Wednesday.
