The cleanup of a New Year's Eve water main break in Demarest is expected to last several days longer.
A 24-inch main burst at the corner of Brook Way and Meadow Street Wednesday. Water pressure has been restored, but a section of the road has been closed after a giant sinkhole opened around the main.
"It looked more like a meteor strike than a water main break," says Police Chief James Powderley.
Police say before crews can move out, the borough engineer will need to inspect the site. Brook Way will remain closed until then.
