‘Delta variant has changed the game.’ Mobile vaccination unit heads to Englewood

Another 8,000 New Jersey residents are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to data released over the past 24 hours. This brings New Jersey’s total number of fully vaccinated residents to more than 5.3 million.
New Jersey officials want more New Jersey residents to get the shot. News 12 New Jersey teamed with Bergen County health officials in an effort to encourage people to get vaccinated.
A pop-up vaccine clinic took place outside McDonald’s on West Palisades Avenue in Englewood. About 25 people came by the clinic over the course of three hours to get the vaccine.
Organizers say that the emphasis was on the Black and brown communities and their access to the vaccine, as well as the importance of getting eligible children vaccinated.
“Our kids are suffering, right? Here in Englewood, kids didn’t have in-person school until April. And so we want the kids to be able to be in school and to be safe,” says Lynn Algrant of Greater Bergen Community Action. “We all need to get vaccinated for them. Twelve years old and up can get vaccinated, but the little ones can’t be, and so we’ve got to protect them in the same way that we protected our elders last year.”

There have been many who are hesitant about getting the vaccine because it is so new. But Algrant says that getting COVID-19 is worse.
“The truth of the matter is that we know COVID. And we know COVID is not good, it’s not good for anyone and it’s not good for kids. This delta variant has changed the game. We have to vaccinate our way out of this. We have to,” Algrant says. “And so parents, I think we have to put on our big boy pants and buckle up and do the best thing that we can do for our kids, which is to get them vaccinated and back to school.”
Thursday’s event was a partnership between Bergen Newbridge Medical Center, Greater Bergen Community Action, Bergen Coalition of Black Clergy and Bergen County.
The vaccine van will be popping up all across New Jersey to allow all New Jerseyans to get the opportunity to get the vaccine if they choose.
