Are you flying out of Newark this week? Your flight could be delayed.

This week, known as Jersey Week, is when a lot of families take off from school and work to go on vacation. Many go to Disney. It is informally known as "Jersey Week."

Election Day is Tuesday. Schools are also closed on Thursday and Friday for the New Jersey Education Association Convention.

But with the ongoing government shutdown, air traffic controllers and TSA agents are working without pay.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says many are not going to work because they need to work other jobs to make money during this time.

There was a ground delay at Newark Liberty International Airport on Sunday because of staffing shortages in the control tower, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The average delay was two hours, but some flights were more than three hours late.

NYC Emergency Management said flights headed to Newark may be held on the ground and departures from Newark may be delayed because gates stay occupied when arrivals are backed up.

NYC Emergency Management also says those delays often spread to John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia airports.
