(AP) - A Jersey City police officer critically wounded in a shootout with two robbery suspects last week is on life support and is not expected to survive.
Police Chief Tom Comey says the death of Officer Marc DiNardo is'imminent.' As of 11:59 p.m. Monday, no update on his status was available.
The 37-year-old was hit by a shotgun blast as heand other officers tried to storm an apartment on July 16. Robberysuspects Hassan Shakur and his wife had holed up inside after anearlier exchange of gunfire on the street.
Shakur and his wife were killed.
Eight officers were injured, including five wounded by gunfire.
DiNardo is a 10-year veteran. He has a wife, and three children.
A family spokeswoman says DiNardo will donate his organs.
