As people make their New Year's Eve plans, it's essential to prioritize safety on the roads.
New Year's Day is one of the deadliest days for alcohol-related fatalities on the road, according to AAA.
In New Jersey, there were 574 deadly crashes in 2023, with 182 of those attributed to driving while intoxicated. The New Jersey State Police reported that 202 people were killed as a result.
AAA is offering advice to help people stay safe on the roads this New Year's Eve:
  • Plan ahead and have a designated driver.
  • Never get behind the wheel if you've been drinking.
  • Never ride as a passenger with someone who has been drinking.
  • If you're hosting a party, remind your guests to stay safe.
  • If you see someone who appears to be impaired driving, keep a safe distance and call 911.
