The cherry tree blossoms in Washington, D.C. were expected to reach peak bloom on April 1. The National Park Service has been closely watching the more than 3,000 iconic Japanese trees around the Tidal Basin. The peak bloom date is defined as the day when 70 percent of the trees have opened their buds.
