Connecticut State Police confirmed one person died and one person was injured after a small plane crash on I-684 near the New York and Connecticut border on Thursday night.
The FAA says the single-engine Tecnam P-2008 went down around 6:35 p.m.
The plane -- which crashed in Harrison near the New York-Connecticut border -- had taken off from Linden, New Jersey, according to Flight Aware.
Connecticut State Police say 32-year-old Jacob Friedman, of Monsey, died in the plane crash. He was a passenger on the plane. They say 26-year-old Kalman Goldberger, of Linden, New Jersey was the pilot and suffered minor injuries.
"He passed over the Tappan Zee Bridge, came straight up and went north of the airport a little bit probably to line up with runway 1-6 which goes north and south,” said aviation expert Sal Lagonia. “At some point he contacted air traffic control he told them he had an engine problem and would try to make the airport and obviously he fell slightly short of the airport."
News 12 obtained audio transmission of the pilot and Westchester County Airport seeking to lane during an emergency:
The crash also caused a gas spill, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul.
The NTSB says its investigators are expected to arrive at the scene on Friday.
The NTSB urges anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the agency at witness@ntsb.gov.
