A Monmouth County couple is headed to prison for their roles in the death of their newborn baby in 2019.
Twenty-year-old Jada McClain received a 10-year sentence Thursday, and 21-year-old Quaimere Mohammed got a five-year term.
McClain apologized in court and sought leniency. She was a student at Neptune High School when she gave birth to a son at her family’s home.
Authorities say McClain pressed her hands on the boy’s chest until he stopped breathing, then contacted Mohammed. The couple then disposed of the body in a trash bin in Asbury Park.
