(AP) - Gov. Jon S. Corzine is proposing a two-dayfurlough for state workers to help close New Jersey's wideningbudget gap. He's also warning there could be layoffs if public worker unionsdon't agree to freeze wages starting in the summer. The governor says requiring state employees to take two days offwithout pay in May and June would save $35 million. Corzine froze the salaries of nonunion employees last month. Treasurer David Rousseau says the state would have saved $6million more if union workers also had agreed to a salary freeze. But union leaders are balking. Hetty Rosenstein, who heads the largest state worker union, calls Corzine's proposals an assault on the union's collectivebargaining relationship with the state.
