A 44-year-old Michigan woman has been arrested after she attempted to lure a young boy via Xbox Live, according to officials.

The Union County Prosecutor's Office says Jessica Carlton, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, began communicating with the then-11-year-old boy through Xbox Live in 2013. Over the course of two years, Carlton and the child began playing video games online together and developed a relationship that became sexual in nature.

Carlton allegedly sent sexually explicit text messages to the boy and exchanged sexually explicit photographs as well. In December 2014, Carlton allegedly traveled to New Jersey to bring the boy gifts and to meet him in person. The gifts included clothes, debits cards and jewelry.

In a statement, Acting Prosecutor Grace Park says, "We urge parents to remain aware of their children's online activities and be vigilant about ensuring their safety."

Carlton was arrested in Michigan on April 9 and was recently extradited to New Jersey. She has been charged with attempting to lure or entice a child, as well as endangering the welfare of a child. She is being held at the Union County Jail and has been ordered not to have any contact with the victim.
