Amid a weeklong stretch of 90-plus degree weather, the people of New Jersey continued their fight to beat the heat on Sunday.
The South Plainfield municipal pool had a busy week, with over 400 guests a day since Tuesday.
Pool manager Bill Nickel said they’re not feeling the effects of the lifeguard shortage. With about 60 staff members at the pool, they kept the place running and safe.
“My daughter brought me here. We’re trying to stay cool. She’s been here for about four hours. I’m dying, but it’s a little breezy so it’s not too bad,” said Jessica Jennifer, of South Plainfield.
Long after the pools closed and everyone left the beach, some headed to places like What's the Scoop in Metuchen for ice cream.
