Grocery prices have increased 13.5% over the past year, according to the latest Consumer Price Index.

Grocery prices have increased 13.5% over the past year, according to the latest Consumer Price Index.
The report also lists the increased price rate for specific items. For instance, egg prices are up 40%. Flour is up more than 23%, milk is up 17%, and bread is up more than 16%.
Experts are offering some advice to deal with these soaring prices. Michelle Singletary, author of "What To Do With Your Money When Crisis Hits," suggests skipping the debit and credit card when grocery shopping.
“Take cash to the grocery store. Take cash to even fill up your car. You will find you drive less because you're thinking, I just spent $50,” she said.
