A Concourse Village woman claims she has been dealing with water leaks in her apartment more often within the past decade.

Carol George said despite her multiple reports to 311 and complaints to management overseeing her building at 367 E 163rd St., the issue continues. She recently contacted News 12 after a portion of her kitchen ceiling collapsed.

"It sounded like a bomb, and I ran from my bedroom to the door…And when I looked, everything, all the debris, down on my floor in my kitchen," described George.

George told News 12 that for the past few years she believes the leaks are caused by the tenant upstairs.

"When I was working. I used to just throw my things out and buy a new one. Now I can't because I'm on a fixed income and, you know, my pressure is going up because the frustration. Every three months, water coming down and they're not doing anything," said George.

While News 12 visited George's building, the building's superintendent knocked on the door of the upstairs neighbor, but no one answered.

News 12 also called building management, but they declined to comment on the issue.

"The owner of the building, he's telling me there's nothing he can do," shared George. "I don't know what kind of water coming down from that…And the water, especially in the bathroom. I don't know what kind of water coming down.”

George said to collect the leaking water from her bathroom ceiling, she leaves a bucket on the ledge of her shower. However, she has concerns for her health when it comes to the water that seeps into her apartment and the debris that comes from her ceiling.

"I don't want to pick up nothing. You know, bacteria from water coming down and debris. If I'm in the kitchen and God forbid, they come down and hit me in my head or I get hurt," said George.

According to the city's Department of Housing Preservation and Development, the buildings in the complex where George resides have over 100 violations.

Despite management declining to speak on the matter, a maintenance crew did arrive at George's apartment and started working on the kitchen ceiling while News 12 was there.
